VW Tiguan Review—Overall
Car and Driver: The compact SUV segment is full of good options, but one of our favorites is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan, which is one of the most well-rounded choices. It’s handsomely styled, well-equipped, and practical. Plus, the VW is one of only two compact SUVs that offer an optional third row of seats
VW Tiguan Review—Performance
Car and Driver: With front-wheel drive, the Tiguan earned fuel economy ratings from the EPA of 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway; adding all-wheel drive reduces those estimates to 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. Both the front- and all-wheel-drive Tiguans we tested on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen vastly outperformed our expectations (and their EPA ratings). In our real-world-mpg test, the FWD version earned 32 mpg and the AWD version earned 33 mpg. Not only did both models crack 30 mpg, but they either matched or bettered the efforts of many of their rivals.
VW Tiguan Review—Interior
Edmunds: The large door openings make getting in and out relatively hassle-free, even for third-row occupants. Visibility is excellent thanks to large windows and small pillars … There’s plenty of room behind the Tiguan’s second row to store several large suitcases. Room behind the third row is tight but better than what other compact three-row SUVs offer. You must also remove the cargo cover if the third row is raised. A sliding second row and deep pockets near the hatch door make this space more versatile. The Tiguan offers lots of places to store small items, even in the third row.
VW Tiguan Review—Safety
Motortrend: When equipped with LED projector headlights (standard on the SEL and SEL Premium trims), the Tiguan earned an IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick designation. Those headlights received a Good score, the highest … All Tiguan trims include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert in their driver-assist and active safety features. For 2021, adaptive cruise control is included starting with the SE trim. Lane keep assist and rain sensing windshield wipers are added on the SEL trim.
