Famous for its sporty drive and spirited turbo engine, the Volkswagen GTI is a fun car to drive but surprisingly practical, too. It has a roomy cabin and up to 34.5 cu ft of cargo space. A 2022 redesign produced the 8th generation of this iconic hot hatch. So, what’s the latest? Let’s examine the six 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI trim levels.

Golf GTI S
The Volkswagen Golf GTI base S trim does not skimp on features and is driven by the same turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine as all higher trims. This potent engine delivers up to 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. It’s married with sport-tuned suspension and a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. Wheels are 18″ alloy shod with all-season tires. If you’re seeking a manual gearbox, check out the 380-prefixed trims.
Loads of features are present from the S trim up, including a limited-slip front differential for greater traction, power-folding side mirrors (standard from 2024), four USB-C ports, IQ.DRIVE driver-assist technologies, heated front seats, 8″ infotainment touchscreen, App-Connect smartphone integration, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and wireless charging. All trims are FWD gasoline cars.
Golf GTI 380 S
This is almost the S with a 6-speed manual transmission, but there are extras. Notably, you get DCC adaptive chassis control (adjusts the suspension according to road conditions), a black-painted roof, black side mirror caps, and 19″ gloss black wheels with summer performance tires.
Golf GTI SE
The SE trim introduces an integrated light bar in the front grille, a panoramic sunroof, keyless access, Dynamic Road Sign Display, a 10″ touchscreen with navigation, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system with a center speaker and subwoofer. You get the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission with the SE. There’s no adaptive chassis control.
Golf GTI 380 SE
The 380 SE adds the same extras to the SE that the 380 S adds to the S. You’ll find the 6-speed manual transmission, adaptive chassis control, black roof, black side-mirror caps, and 19″ gloss-black wheels.
Golf GTI Autobahn
There are plenty of extras to enjoy in the Autobahn, including three-zone climate control (hitherto single zone), a 12-way power adjustable driver seat, a power reclining passenger seat, ventilation in front seats, heated front and rear seating, Light Assist, a Head-Up display (HUD), and leather seat surfaces. You get the 7-speed automatic transmission and adaptive chassis control on this model.
Golf 380 Autobahn
As with preceding trims, the 380 version of the Autobahn adds the manual 6-speed transmission, black wheels, black mirror caps, and black roof. Both Autobahn models have 19″ wheels, albeit different. Please note: the Golf GTI will no longer be made with manual gears after 2024.
